Easter is here! It’s like the Super Bowl of Christianity. GO BRONCOS!!! Easter is when we celebrate the victory of Jesus over death and sin. The victory wasn’t just temporary either, it is an eternal victory. Forever and ever Jesus has conquered sin and the grave. That’s important because all humans die and all humans sin. But we don’t have to be slaves to sin nor do we have to fear death!
#1 Winning over Sin
Sin helps us excuse the behavior that destroys us little by little. Sin is like a bad boyfriend breaking the heart of his girlfriend over and over again until she doesn’t trust or love as hard as she did before they dated…or vice versa.
Sin is failing the God standard and its hold over us is what robs us of the good life God has in store for us.
Jesus rising from the dead after a false conviction proved that he has eternally defeated sin and that means he has defeated sin for us. When someone becomes a Christian, they don’t live like they once did. They have a new life in Christ and sin-free life.
#2 Winning over Death
Death is synonymous with the human experience. We’ve all lost someone close to us, parents, relatives, significant others and friends. There isn’t one person who hasn’t been touched in one way by the reality of death. But after-all Death isn’t just the end of our earthly existence it is also the punishment for sin—an everlasting death.
After 3 days in the grave Jesus defeated Death and rose from the grave. The Bible provides the eye witness accounts of those who saw, heard, and touched him. This was a real deal coming back to life and it validated Jesus’s claims to be a conqueror of the most prevalent fixture of our existence, death.
Christians not only gain a new life in Christ, but also an eternal one. When we leave this existence, we hop right on over into the next one! A life forever full of love, joy, peace, etc. it’s heaven you get the picture, right?
#3 Victory for an Awesome Life
Many of us aren’t living the life we’ve always dreamed of. Our net worth isn’t at dream level, or our health isn’t at dream level, or our love lives are not at dream level. Well becoming a Christian doesn’t fix everything. But God gives us the tools to change our lives. We’re empowered to create change in our lives and lives of others.
The church is filled with people just like you who have experienced this power and change. Freedom from drug addiction, abusive relationships, and depressive behaviors and thought cycles are all in Jesus! He didn’t just defeat death and sin he has given us victory to live an awesome life!
