Wash, Rinse, Repeat
One of my other goals is to be debt free. Got rid of everything but the student loans so far (*PRAISE JESUS!*). How you get out of debt may be different than others. No one knows your wallet but you. You may want to sell your home and dump all the debt you can. You might want to budget aggressively. Either way whether via preparation for a lump sum payoff or whittling debt down overtime, you won’t be getting out it overnight. Even the lump sum scenario will take a week or two (depending on how many debts you have)…believe me I know. Also without a lifestyle change you’re in danger of creating a heap of debt again if you’re not careful.
Getting out of debt over time requires the habit of paying what you owe. Determining that it’s worth the effort and grind and that the unknown freedom of not owing any person anything but love will be worth it. The day in which you answer your phone without looking to see who it is just because you aren’t worried about some potentially stress filled conversation.
Consistency will always be rewarded.
Use repetition to your advantage. Budgets are awesome tools it’s the repetitive nature that provides a sense of normalcy with money management so use repetition to accomplish your goals. Consistency will always be rewarded. Constantly neglecting on-time payments will get a judgement awarded against your wages or a lien placed on your home. Constantly making on-time payments and clearing off your credit card you’ll be rewarded with a higher credit score and lower interest rates when you need to borrow. What will your reward be?
Do it for the Vine (Do people still say that?)
Social Media is powerful. I use a calorie tracker with a social media element with which I can get inspiration and to my surprise inspire others. It was quite interesting to hear someone call me inspirational the first time it happened. I was a little shook. The truth is I’m on that site and using that tool to desperately reach my own goal. Weight loss is not easy and it’s a very self-focused type ambition. I’m not losing weight for anyone other than me. While I certainly understand others will be benefit, my family in particular. But not people on the internet, not strangers. But that’s the thing about social media—strangers become tribes and can create a sense of community for people all over the world looking to accomplish the same thing.
This tip is about building or infusing yourself into a community of likeminded individuals. Join that message board and voice your grievances, help others. Pursue your passions in an open manner and let others know about your successes and failures and be encouraged and encourage others.
A strong sense of community will reinforce commitment. Your community could be looking to you as motivation; but you’re not willing to share the struggle and success. This key could seriously be the element you’ve been missing to creating habits that get the goals done! Are you part of a community? Have you subconsciously been using these 3 Keys all along?
